How to Fringe

Whether this is your first Fringe or your 19th, choosing from among 100 or so local, national and international companies can be a bit overwhelming.

Choosing your shows
The Fringe is all about discovery. Maybe you like the show’s title or the company’s photo on a poster. Maybe you visited an artist’s home country ten years ago. Why not go to two shows in a row in the venue near your apartment? Follow your nose, it always knows. We program a number of FREE events where you can sample excerpts of shows; you will find them listed in the “Special Events” section.

Ultimately, it’s the audience who decides which shows are “good” and which aren’t. To get the hang of what the audience is saying, spend a few minutes reading its members’ reviews on our Buzz of the Beer Tent wall near the Central Box Office. Follow the NetBuzz on the website. At the Fringe, word-of-mouth is king: talk to the volunteers – they are always the first to identify each year’s hits and hidden gems. And don’t be afraid to share your opinion of what you’ve seen with others.
