I Wish I Was Freddy Dylan Etheridge is a frustrated journey through young adulthood. It starts with headbanging at 15 and goes from dreaming of rock n roll stardom, to selling drugs, to barely making love, to losing your ideals, to waking up and wanting to break the cycle.

Coming to this show I had really no idea what to expect... I mean - Sex, drugs & Rock n`roll - its been done, right? Or so I thought.
What I came to experience was a spellbinding & raw, utterly captivating performance. Its a show that made me laugh, cry, reflect, cringe, relate - and then want to experience it all over again!
In short, I was simply awestruck and left feeling very pleasantly surprised and satified.
My only complaint - I wanted more!
Walking into the venue on opening, I only had a vague idea what to expect from this show. Something about sex, drugs, rock'n'roll and everything that comes with it. Should be entertaining. No big deal.
Well, I got a whole lot more, as did everyone else in the hall.
From the first time you see Freddy Dylan Etheridge swagger onto the stage, to his humble exit, this performance is absolutely enthralling. I couldn't look away. Freddy not only wants your attention, he demands it - and you give it to him willingly. Spanning ultra-bravado to devastating humility, the emotional peaks and valleys that this guy (Y. Ethier) brings to life on stage are extreme, and you follow him every step of the way, be it laughing hysterically or clearing your throat to choke a creeping tear back. Truly impressive stuff.
I was completely hooked - I could have listened to Freddy explain to me "what it all means" for 24 hours straight, let alone 1 hour.
But maybe that's the point: a short moment in time crammed with pain, love, sex, drugs, life, death and a bit of transcendence.
Just like Rock'n'Roll.
Rock on Freddy.
Well ill start off by saying this is so far the best show ive seen at the fringe this year. The raw talent and execution that Yanik has presented us with Freddy Dylan Etheridge is of the highest caliber often only seen by top-tier stand-up acts. Its a rollercoaster ride of emotions, obviously closely based on Yanik's life thus far, but its so much deeper. He really opens up his mind to the audience, and u can tell its very genuine. Yanik knows how to keep the audience hooked from start to finish, and definatly reminds me of Jim Carrey but very dark, emotional and raw. But the writing is what makes this show really shine, its very intellegent and layered dark comedy at its best. Whether u were a pissed off teenager seeking the sex, drugs, rock n roll lifestyle or "the discovering the artist within" type, or neither for that matter, you will be greatly entertained with I Wish I Was Freddy Dylan Etheridge.
Yanik showed us so much talent in all aspect of showbizz. His material was well thought, well put together to have an interesting flow and the performance was incredible. The hour of entertainment was worth every penny spent and could have watch him perform for hours. Yanik has proven to be a top performer and would be highly rated competing against the best in the industry. Good work and can`t wait for his next show.
That show was awsome. Keep up the good work!
Best show I've ever seen for $5! It could have been presented for full price at the St-Denis theatre during Just for Laughs and the entertainment value is still there.
Desperately seeking a show to see after not getting into "Penumbra" 'cause it was sold out (Bravo guys..."I'll be back!"), we hit on I WISH I WAS FREDDY DYLAN ETHERIDGE. Yanik Éthier covers everything from teen angst "I wanna be a rock star" to what the fuck am I doing trying to make a living as an artist? Great writing, rapid-fire delivery, multi-layered...a treat of a discovery. Go see it!
If laughter is truely the best therapy, save yourself a trip to the shrink. Brilliantly performed. Hillarious yet moving. MUST SEE.
